Time to go Home

(Porthgwarra Beach, Cornwall)

by Richard Harpum MA

About this Painting

This scene is based upon a series of photographs that I took on Porthgwarra Beach on the south Cornwall coast near Lands End. The beach is the location used for several scenes in Poldark, the popular television series.

It was a beautiful sunny August afternoon and the sea was almost dead calm.  I was inspired to paint this by the little girl running up the beach.  She had clearly had a good day but was being told by her parents that it was time to go home.  Some of the other figures on the beach were superimposed to provide balance and interest.
