This painting of Windsor Castle was a commission for a thirtieth birthday present for a client named ‘Tristan’. His boat is in the foreground. This is my second painting of Windsor Castle, so I already had plenty of reference material, along with details of Tristan’s boat.
The Castle is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world and has been the family home of British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years. It is an official residence of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, whose Royal Standard (the flag shown in this painting) flies from the Round Tower when she is in residence, which is quite frequently.
The view in this painting is from the banks of the River Thames about half a mile upstream from a large meadow known as “The Brocas”.
* Prices in US Dollars and Euros are those used by the artist but may vary depending upon the prevailing exchange rates and the method of payment.
** A Studio Proof canvas print is a giclée print on canvas that is hand-embellished by the artist using the same medium as the original painting (usually acrylic), signed, numbered and then coated in 3 layers of UV-resistant varnish. It is then mounted on stretchers ready for framing.
*** Giclée printing is an advanced form of ink jet printing that applies a wide range of coloured inks that are designed to be light-fast for at least 75 years.
