Cádiz Garden
Painting - Cádiz Garden - botanical gardens of Alameda de Apodaca

About this Painting

Copyright © Richard Harpum

My wife and I are regular visitors to Spain and in 2013 we re-visited Cadiz, which was packed with people celebrating the Feast of Corpus Christi. Cadiz is situated on a peninsular on the southern tip of Spain. To escape the crowds we made our way around the coast line and on the northern side of the city found some beautiful parks overlooking the lagoon.  One of these was the botanical gardens of Alameda de Apodaca, which contained a series of beautiful pergolas dripping with bougainvilleas and trumpet vines (Campsis). There were also some amazing trees, including Jacarandas, which were in full bloom.

I took numerous photographs, one of which was used as the basis for this painting.  And if you look really carefully, you may see my favourite dog, Oscar, taking a stroll in the park.

This painting was voted Best Professional Artwork in Show at the Great Sheffield Art Show 2013.
