Every year or two, my wife and I visit her sister and her family in Phoenix Arizona. In 2008 we all drove up to Utah, visiting several national parks, including Arches National Park.
Delicate Arch is Utah’s national symbol and is located on a ridge a 45-minute up-hill hike from the nearest parking lot. However, it is worth the effort. The arch is located on the side of a wide natural hollow, which reminded me of an amphitheatre. The name is a bit of a misnomer, as there is not much that is “delicate” about this arch. It has many other nicknames, the most apt of which I think is “Cowboy Chaps”.
This scene is of the sun setting over Canyonlands and shining through the arch. Although the rocks are naturally an orange colour, the sunset significantly enhances this to give a breathtaking effect.
