Downderry is a popular Cornish seaside village enjoying breathtaking, un-spoilt coastline and countryside about 18 miles west of Plymouth and 4 miles east of Looe. I have visited the village and beach on a couple of occasions and found it to be a place that is particularly popular with children, who spend happy hours searching the rock pools or building grand constructions in the sand.
This painting is taken from a series of photographs I took in 2003 and is a composite of a number of different views. The dog, whose name was Oscar, was photographed here and has subsequently made several appearances in my paintings.
This painting was featured as "Painting of the Month" in the September 2012 issue of Artist & Illustrators Magazine.
