Every year my wife and I visit Cornwall. One of our favourite destinations is Polperro on the south coast.
Polperro is a 13th century fishing village, with a reputation for smuggling and privateering. Boats were licenced by the Admiralty to attack and capture enemy ships, bringing great wealth to many Polperro families during the latter half of the 18th century. The privateers often combined official business with smuggling, returning with cargoes of contraband to sell ashore.
In later years, Polperro has become one of the most popular resorts in Britain for artists and visitors alike.
This painting shows some of the boats in the harbour at low tide and captures the late afternoon light.
This painting was Highly Commended in the 2013 ‘The Artist & Leisure Painters’ Patchings Competition and Exhibition.

** A Studio Proof canvas print is a giclée print on canvas that is hand-embellished by the artist using the same medium as the original painting (usually acrylic), signed, numbered and then coated in 3 layers of UV-resistant varnish. It is then mounted on stretchers ready for framing.
*** Giclée printing is an advanced form of ink jet printing that applies a wide range of coloured inks that are designed to be light-fast for at least 75 years.
