Running Close Hauled

About this Painting

In 2008 I was invited by a friend to join him and some colleagues on a sailing trip to Croatia.  There were eight of us altogether and we hired two yachts and a local guide for the week.

Sailing out of Pula in Istria, we made our way south through the islands, stopping every night at various ports.  We were fortunate to have great weather and good winds, which gave a week of exciting sailing.

This scene is made up from a series of photographs taken from both boats and merged to show them sailing together close hauled into the wind.  On the last day we were joined by some dolphins, which I have included in the painting.

*** Giclée printing is an advanced form of ink jet printing that applies a wide range of coloured inks that are designed to be light-fast for at least 75 years.
