This painting was a commission for a jigsaw from Jumbo Group.
It is almost completely made up from my imagination, although I have included some parts from my own photographs, notably some of the buildings and people. Part of the street on the right is from my hometown of Tickhill, Yorkshire, as is the famous ‘Butter Cross’ monument in the distance. There are also a couple of Paddington bears (he was conceived here in Tickhill, not in Peru!). I’ve also included a Vulcan bomber (there is still one nearby at Doncaster airport). The balloon is the Bristol Belle, which was the first modern hot air balloon launched in Britain.
Some of the people are wearing the popular fashions of the 1960s, notably mini-skirts and colourful bell-bottom pants. I’ve also included a couple of iconic 1960s vehicles – a Mini and a Morris Minor Traveller.
As with all paintings intended for jigsaws, this painting required a lot of detail and as a result took me nearly 280 hours to paint, much longer than any previous painting. However, I thoroughly enjoyed the work.
As usual, my favourite dog, ‘Oscar’ (a Staffordshire Bull Terrier), makes an appearance.

** A Studio Proof canvas print is a giclée print on canvas that is hand-embellished by the artist using the same medium as the original painting (usually acrylic), signed, numbered and then coated in 3 layers of UV-resistant varnish. It is then mounted on stretchers ready for framing.
*** Giclée printing is an advanced form of ink jet printing that applies a wide range of coloured inks that are designed to be light-fast for at least 75 years.
