** A Studio Proof canvas print is a giclée print on canvas that is hand-embellished by the artist using the same medium as the original painting (usually acrylic), signed, numbered and then coated in 3 layers of UV-resistant varnish. It is then mounted on stretchers ready for framing.

*** Giclée printing is an advanced form of ink jet printing that applies a wide range of coloured inks that are designed to be light-fast for at least 75 years.

About this Painting

This is a digitally altered version of my painting “La Lamparería, Albacín, Granada”. It depicts what I think this amazing lamp shop would look like at night.

My wife and I are regular visitors to Andalucía in southern Spain and we often visit Grenada. In 2011 we visited the Albacín, a medieval Moorish district of the city that rises on a hill offering spectacular views of the Alhambra Palace.

As we were exploring the narrow, winding streets we came across a small lamp shop with a fantastic display of coloured lanterns. I immediately knew that I had to paint it. This proved to be easier said than done but I think I have pulled it off. Although this painting took a while to paint, I suspect this was less time than it takes to make one of these beautiful lanterns.

As the shop reminded me of Aladdin’s cave I added a suitable lamp on the table outside the shop.
